Governments Investing in AR & VR for Training Purposes

Forcasted for a $108 billion industry by 2021, VR/AR is anticipated to infiltrate across industries and many are ongoing to realize the impact and value mixed reality technologies will have on our society within the close future.  More so with the recent announcements by Facebook and also Snap Chat to add AR functionalities for their own programs.

One influenced industry is going to be instruction.  AR, together with it’s ability to unite both the physical and digital, and VR, with it’s ability to users in brand new surroundings, brings new dimensions to instruction and learning.

This impact to education have not escaped the notice of governments across the world and many, through their Instruction and Technology Ministries, are taking initiatives to encourage developments and utilization of AR/VR.  Let’s see what steps have been accepted from governments all across the world to fortify the presence of AR/VR in the instruction space:


At November 2015 , the U.S. Department of Education first announced the EdSim Challenge calling on programmers and the training technology community to research new ideas that will benefit nextgeneration learning with using simulation technologies like augmented reality and virtual reality.  The process encouraged applicants to seek simulations that fortify academic skills in students.

The finalists will have the opportunity to go through this Virtual Accelerator to help develop and polish their thoughts with guidance from mentors from the instruction and tech businesses and also a chance.

The awards as well as the implementation of this process itself, demonstrates the Department of Education’s understanding of the value of AR/VR in the future of the education system especially in the training of a skills based workforce.


As the EdSim Challenge from the U.S. was only being announced, the French Ministry of National Education was likewise expressing the aid of augmented reality technologies within the classroom.  Within their national curriculum, the Ministry comprised AR as a technology to be used in school technology classes.

As the political turmoil in South Korea on the past couple of months has led to a reduction of the investment, they are ongoing to charge ahead with the recent opening of a new space in Seoul called the Korean Virtual Reality — Augmented Reality Complex (KoVAC).  KoVAC will give you support and resources to a wide range of areas in AR/VR, particularly, instruction.  As a portion of KoVAC’s aims is to run an instruction centre across 20 campuses by the year 2020.  These campuses will on-board 2,200 students students while in the field of augmented reality and virtual reality to keep on to teach another generation of entrepreneurs and industry leaders .


China, through municipal and national authorities, was investing heavily from the augmented reality and virtual reality sector, far outpacing that of a number of other countries.

On a national stage, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), in partnership with over 170 private companies and research associations established the Industry of Virtual Reality Alliance (IVRA) to grow the ecosystem and also improve developments.  The cooperation comprises many academic labs and research facilities such as the Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics.
